What if you could snap your fingers and be exactly where you wanted to be, now. Right now, as in, as you sit and sip that java, you've scored the ideal job - one you've envisioned yourself in forever, or so it seems.
Close your eyes, go on now, slam 'em tight for just a moment. Where are you? What are you doing? What are you wearing? Whom is around you? These are the questions we simply neglect to ask ourselves when dreaming of the ideal job. It matters. It matters far more than you know. How? The power of positive thinking and envisioning. Engaging in conversations with yourself to ask you..."hey, how are YOU?" Look at your mental picture of the aforementioned questions (you can open your eyes) and simply ANSWER the questions honestly. Write them down. Now, if you're dreaming of white sands, waves lapping the shores in a rockin' bikini with your best girls surrounding you - this is not what I'm talking about. I mean, it could be - if you aspire to not work, ever. That's called a vacation, and once you earn one, by all means, jump on a steel bird and go for it. This is about envisioning where you want to be and what you have to do to get it. It's about Success vs. Failure. You have the power to choose it and make it happen. Envision it. Believe it. Act on it.
Be real with yourself too. I can close my eyes and see me sitting at a mahogany desk, with the city landscape behind me (you know, corner office view and all) wearing a sharp, custom-made suit sipping a Mimosa. Now, could this have happened for me in my life? You bet your bippy it could have! (not sure what a bippy actually is, but I was raised hearing my Nana say it) However, I need to be real with myself and accept that I've made different choices, when I had choices to make. I have a great career, one that I've built using my integrity, ethics, shinning disposition and intellect. I also chose to have children and spend time home with them while they were mere Chitlins. Something I envisioned myself doing years ago. Now - having children wouldn't and shouldn't derail a woman's dream of the Mahagony desk, no no no - (go for it), but for ME and my choices, I wasn't willing to push as hard as it would have taken to sip Mimosa's at my desk. It's about what you envision (there's that word again) and thereby doing what is needed to make it happen.
In my early twenties, fresh from the basement parties at Delta Chi, and in my first corporate job, I had a clipping from a magazine of an enraged dog baring its teeth with the caption "It's a Dog-eat-Dog World, Bite Hard & Bite First". I was full of vinegar in those days and would look at that and smile, repeat it in my head over and over, and ultimately believed I could, and would succeed. I did. In my 6 years aligned with that organization, I climbed from Inside Sales representative to Midwest Sales Director and held 3 different titles in between. All with just grit, my God given skills, and envisioning I could. Ok, and some luck, too!
So, my point in this blog? Close your eyes. Ask. Answer. And somebody Google Bippy for me!
